By digiwaxxdreamteam

Fresh from our week-long trip of planning, networking, and clubbing, the Digiwaxx Dream Team is back with a recap of this year’s College Music Marathon festivities held at dives and venues across the Big Apple.

We kicked off our musical experience with a trip to the Gramercy Theater to see the one and only Q-Tip at the opening night performance for CMJ. The incomparable lyricist from the legendary hip-hop group, A Tribe Called Quest, performed classics like Award Tour, Bonita Applebaum, and Once Again with help from the liveliest audience member. Effortlessly spinnin’ on the 1’s and 2’s was none other than the Brooklyn’s own DJ Scratch. The EPMD representative had the crowd bouncin’ from the beginning to the end of the memorable set.

Wednesday, October 17th

We tried to continue our CMJ experience at Hiro Hallroom for the Fool’s Gold showcase to check A-Trak, The Cool Kids, Kid Sister. Unfortunately, our trip was cut short due to the CMJ badge allotment for this particular venue. (Boooo!)

Thursday, October 18th-

Today was monumental for two reasons.

One, we were in the presence of the Teacher. I’m talking about the guy who told you about The South Bronx and introduced you to The Blastmaster. That’s right….KRS-1. We met him at a meet and greet held at NYU’s Kimmel Center. It was so inspiring to see one of hip-hop’s living legends close up. (Much Respect!)

Two, this same night the Digiwaxx Dream Team debuted their first event, in conjuction with CMJ, CPP and GSP productions (Big Shout out to Jeremy & Dan!), at the illustrious L.E.S. nightclub, Plan B. Within the crowd of awesome folks that partied with us were some truly influential folks, music execs, lyricists, college radio personalities, and obviously the hottest college djs. The spot was packed with trend setters, taste makers, true school music fans and lots of beautiful people.

As if our week wasn’t awesome already, our official CMJ badge admitted us into possibly the hottest event of the week (second to The Get Back, of course). It was the M.I.A. show at Terminal 5, with featured opening guests, The Cool Kids. This was not only a phenomenal show, but it was an incredible venue. The crowd was live with everyone from your average city hipster kid to in-the-know out of towner. One of which we happened to meet (Shout to Kava Lee from the Chi).

Saturday, October 20th-
